SED TV @ CEATEC 2006
Charges of SED TV vaporware evaporated somewhat at CEATEC 2006 held in Chiba, Japan in early October 2006. On public display for the first time from SED Inc., a joint venture between Canon & Toshiba, were the 55-inch models slated for mass production in late 2007.
Some key specifications for the 1080p models on display at the trade show include 50,000:1 contrast ratio, 1ms response time, 450 nits brightness, 30,000 screen life and low power consumption in comparison to Plasma and LCD screens.
Videophiles will be encouraged to see progress on the hardware front after a string of missed deadlines and postponements, and will be looking forward with great anticipation to eyeballing for themselves the screens at CES 2007 in Las Vegas come January.
Keiichiro Mori, chief specialist at Toshiba's SED Project Team, reiterated that SED is on track to go into production in 2007.
