SED TV Release Date

The SED TV release date has been a moving target over the last couple of years. But for the last six months or so and up till quite recently, as recent as CES 2006 held in Las Vegas in January in fact, the release date had been set at Q1 2006. That is for Japan at least, with US and European releases to follow in Q4 2006 or Q1 2007.

Unfortunately these dates have once again been moved back. According to a Canon Toshiba press release, the Japanese launch is now slated for Q4 2007 with US and European dates being moved back accordingly. The first stage of mass production of SED panels will begin in July 2007

This further delay was no surprise to industry watchers who got an inkling that further postponements were in the works at CES 2006 when Canon and Toshiba continued to parade the 36in 720p SED prototype models that have been making the rounds at exhibitions and conventions for the last 12 months rather than models at the announced first product release specifications of 55in and 1080p.
